Birds of Prey

I saw a hawk swoop down and grab a baby rabbit, mid hop, after watching it from a tree for what felt like forever.

It was as if she knew exactly where to strike before taking off.

So when you told me you loved me too, I truly thought this time was different.

I believed that this was it and the search was finally over. That the hunt could be called off.

Because when I thought of you, when I thought of us, it just felt natural.

Because ever time I caught myself dreaming of you

It felt like we’d known each other our whole lives.

It felt like forever.

I guess that’s why it was so devastating when you left

When you said you never felt the same.

When you said you found someone new.

When you said we were never going to work.

It was as if you knew exactly where to strike

Before taking off.
