Misidentification

Despite being marsupials,
We still called them “Koala Bears”
Simply because early settlers though there was a resemblance.

And for centuries, we continued to call them bears
Since it was familiar. It was comfortable
It was what we knew
So it became what we believed.
Without a question or a doubt

Ignoring the fact
That outside of minor physical traits,
There are actually very few similarities between the two.

And I get it.

Hell, after hearing you call me “love” for so long

I started to think it too.
It was familiar. Comfortable.
So it became what I believed.
Without a question or a doubt

Ignoring the fact
That outside of my own delusion,
There were actually very few similarities between us two.

And what thought was love
Couldn’t have been further from the truth.
