Near Algodones

I’ve never felt so egregiously held.

Still breathless

Still speechless

But her nuzzles felt like nooses

And she gazed

Like the gallows

Lingering

Until I accepted

That we were just hanging on.

Knowing we had to let each other go

And allow ourselves to fall

Or else we risk choking

On the words we never said.
