Richter Scale

Why do we tremble?
Is it fear?
Fear of what was said yesterday? Or what we saw today? Or what we’ll do tomorrow?
Are we just afraid to be ourselves?
To simply exist?

Or perhaps we’re just cold.
Numb to everything around us
Expecting nothing to change
So that we’re never disappointed.

But have you considered
The trembles
Are not,
Nor ever were,
Your fault?

Perhaps it’s the world shifting beneath your feet
Causing you to shake
And it’s a sign
That you’ve stood your ground long enough.
And it’s time to move

To safety
