The Scenic Route
When I was younger, I would lay in the back of my mom’s car while she drove. Head back against the window, facing the sky with my eyes shut. Yet the sun still found a way to shine through, no matter how tightly I closed my eyes.
And my favorite part was when she would take the backroads. The ones lined with trees of various shapes and sizes
For the sun would come and go
Creating a puppet show
Of dancing shadow
And flashes of light
Much like a kaleidoscope.
Thinking back on it now, I’m reminded that life still finds a way to show you beauty
Even when you can’t see it.
Even when you try and close yourself off.
The beauty inside of you
Will always be there
