War Horse

I’ve waged wars with myself

And both sides lost.

Calamitous casualties crippled the core

But this battle was just a front

And despite the signs

That I may be dangerous,

She charged ahead

With reckless abandon.

Through minefields of mistakes

And burdensome barbed wire

All because she saw something worth saving

That I left for dead

In no man’s land.
