Your Candlelight Vigilance

Your candlelight vigilance keeps me awake
On the days I wish I could sleep peacefully
In the dark.

For you’ve made it abundantly clear
You don’t want me to dream,
Yet you hide in plain sight
Like an imaginary friend
Whose sole purpose is
To make sure
No one believes in me.

But no matter how restless I get,
I remind myself
That the day will come
When the sun will rise
As my eyelids set

For I will finally be free.
