Coterie

What hurt the most

Wasn’t the unanswered calls
The texts left on read
The forgotten birthdays
And double booked plans

No, what hurt me the most
Was when I hurt myself,

And you had the nerve to act surprised.
Venting about how you never saw it coming.
How I shut myself off
And closed out the world,
Pushing you away.

But we both know I gave you a key
And screamed your name every night
Begging between “Hey, man” and “Next time then”

But you wanted nothing to do with me then
So you’ll get nothing to from me now
