Lakes of Calgary

I was promised pristine waters
So clear I could see the bottom.

I was promised immense mountains
So tall I could feel safe.

I was promised air
And space
So pure I could finally breathe.

I was shown pictures of Calgary

Because Heaven was just a word

And when I sleep, I’ll go there
For when I dream, I’ll be there

Where you can meet me on the shores
Skipping stones in just my socks
As I’ve made this place my home.

But I don’t live in Calgary…

So I’ll never see the bottom.
And I’ll never quite feel safe,
Since I’m unable to breathe.

But if my mind wants to make up scenes
Of what my future will bring,

Let them be of distant lakes
Instead of puddles in my pillow
