But I Remember You

You probably don’t remember me
But I remember you

In the kindness of a stanger
In the songs you used to play
In the lessons learned on rainy days
And in the laughter of a friend

You probably don’t remember me
But I remember you

For you took the time
To shine your light
Into a night
That had long forgotten the warmth
Of the Sun

To try and bring out the best
In me
And everyone lucky to cross your path

You taught me how to be a good man
But I fear all I did
Was show you that I was a bad one

So after all this time
After all these years
The best I can truly do now
Is hope

Hope
That you probably don’t remember me

Because I cannot forget you
Nor can I forgive me

Haunted by how disappointed
You probably felt
When I left

But in the off chance you do remember me,
Maybe you can find comfort in knowing
That I didn’t leave
The way I intended
For I still have the ablitiy today
To wake up tomorrow

And every day I do
I try
To be the good man you taught me to be

You probably don’t remember me
But I remember you
